The Adventure Begins...

After 2 years of planning we are finely off on the Yukon Assignment! It was an emotional farewell at Heathrow this leaving our very understanding wives behind for the next month. We really couldn't be doing it with out their support and certainly for me (Chris) having Annie just tell me it's going to be ok over the past few days has been invaluable!

I felt pretty tense going through security I have to admit. Heighten measures mean lithium batteries need to be checked. With all the camera kit we have a shed load of batteries! Prior preparation won the day though having made a list of everything we are carrying to make checks nice and simple. Within about 10 minutes of getting airside Niall was getting some precautionary expedition shut eye!

Great flight and had a good chat with the guy next to me to happens to be in Canadian search and rescue. Handy!

Canada has to be the friendliest country on earth! I must have been asked at least 5 times going through the airport whether I needed any help. Or maybe I was just looking pretty helpless!

The next leg of the journey is a flight to Whitehorse so we left the big bags at the airport. The attendant asked if we had anything sharp in our luggage. Well yes actually - 2 small knives, 1 multi tool knife, 1 large knife, 2 rescue knives, 2 folding saws, a bow saw blade, needles in the medikit, oh and an axe!! "Are you actually joking" was her quite concerned response!

This afternoon (body clock says its middle of the night) we found an amazing abandoned railway on the Frazer River where there were the juiciest blackberries!

Niall has done a lot of decorating over the years, so imagine his delight in perusing a Canadian store, that sells all sorts of Purdy paint brushes not available in the UK. We narrowly avoided the canoe being filled with brushes!

Randomly we then found ourselves in a Chinese supermarket tucking into some great Kung Pao chicken!

Really like Vancouver. It seems very chilled and friendly, cosmopolitan and the fact that you have a mountain vista from the city is very cool!

On to Whitehorse in the morning :)
